What Are the Available Restaurant Maps Online?

Traditionally, when people were looking for a new restaurant, they would pick up a copy of Zagat's or some other fancy food guide. But in just a few short years, online maps have come a long way and now offer local information on businesses, shops and eateries too. Sites like Google Maps allow users to create their own maps of favorite establishments that they can save or share with friends and family. There are hundreds of food maps online, although a few noteworthy ideas have risen to the top.

On the West Coast, what could be better than eating a real, authentic Mexican taco out of a truck? With heaping portions, loads of options and mama's homemade guacamole, you just cannot go wrong. You just can't get that level of deliciousness from a restaurant, Californians say. However, it can be tricky to locate these trucks, especially if you are from out-of-town. Thus, Yumtacos was born.

Creator Joshua Lurie-Terrell of Sacramento, California said he had been keeping a list of the best taco trucks for quite some time. "As soon as friends of mine knew I had this list, people were calling me all the time," he admits. From there, transferring the data onto a Google map was no problem. Once the site was live, people could add their own taco truck sightings. Yum Tacos primarily focuses on California, although authentic Mexican taco trucks have been plotted from as far away as Baltimore, Maryland.

Another site, Chinesefoodmap, is based on mapping out the Chinese restaurant locations for Chinese immigrants. Web users will also have access to reviews, menus, driving directions and other local information. Creator Brian Hui first created this site only in Chinese and focusing on Los Angeles and San Francisco Bay Chinese food establishments. However, the site has grown nationwide to metros like Houston, Seattle and Atlanta, and an English version inevitably popped up as well.

Users of Google Maps have created a number of restaurant "mashups" based on the Google template. One of the most notable sites is Menurequest, which features more than 5,000 links in New York, San Diego, Boston, Chicago, Los Angeles, Napa Valley, Philadelphia, San Francisco, and Washington DC. Users can visit the restaurant's website, read reviews, get driving directions and make online reservations through this amazing map. These are just a few of the food maps available to culinary curators. Perhaps your very own city has a site designed just for hungry local residents like you.

Travel Tips for the Holiday Season

Ah, holiday travel. The packed airplanes, the crowded airports, the high ticket prices: there's nothing quite like traveling in December to make you long for January. From waiting in a long security line to having your luggage filled with the Christmas presents for your new in-laws delivered to Ohio as you land in Oklahoma, traveling over the holidays can be a real pain. Tis' the season to go crazy.

However, holiday travel doesn't have to be a nightmare. With a few tips and a little effort, things may go smoother than you thought possible. So, put your tray tables up and heed the following advice on traveling during December.

Be Nice to Airport Employees

As soon as you enter an airport, democratic values fly out the window; here, the airport employees have absolute power. It may be easy to get angry with them - you're already running late and you don't have time to wait - but keep in mind that they are doing the best they can: they want you up in the air and out of their hair as much as you do. Being nice and courteous to an airport employee or being rude and unfair could mean the difference between an upgrade and a cavity search.

Fly During Odd Hours

The holidays are the busiest time of the year for airports: everyone has somewhere to go. While there is no way around this fact, there is a way around the majority of the crowds: fly during non peak hours. Flying very early or very late may seen a bit inconvenient, as you could arrive at your destination in the middle of the night, but it will save you so much hustle and bustle that it might just be worth it. The tickets will probably be cheaper too.

Bring a Book or Ten

One of the things that is most stressed at the airport during the holidays is patience: there will definitely be waiting involved. While some people pass this time by tapping their fingers on escalator railings, glancing at their watches, and growing increasingly agitated, one of the best ways to practice patience is with a new book. You'll still have to wait, but with something to engage you, you just might not mind as much.

Give Security a Break

Security lines at the airport can be frustrating. From taking off your shoes to bagging your liquids, it may seem as though the security lines are walking a fine line between safety and privacy. However, keep in mind that airport security was put in place for one reason alone: to save people's lives. Saving lives trumps inconvenience, as it well should. So, give the security people a break and help them out by not wearing objects that will trigger the alarm, removing your coats and jackets, turning on your laptops, and wearing shoes that can be easily removed and placed back on.

Bribe Your Children

The only thing worse than traveling over the holidays is traveling with children over the holidays. When it comes to kids, patience is not a virtue. Because of this, children become easily agitated, upset over having to wait in lines or being stuck in an airport with nothing to do. In order to keep your kids happy - and keep them from driving you crazy - keep them entertained. For younger kids, something as simple as a coloring book may suffice, while the older kids may need a handheld video game or an IPOD to keep them appeased. When all else fails, remind your kids that Santa is particularly observant at the airport: it's in their best interest to behave.

Ship Your Presents

Many people have an aversion to shipping their holiday presents, afraid that the post office will send the wrong package to the wrong house. But, placing presents in luggage and checking your bags can also cause these gifts to travel to the wrong destination. If the present is small enough that you can carry it on, then do so. But, for presents that are too big to be carried, ship them beforehand. Not only will you not have to make room in your suitcase for a present - asking the contents of your bag to "suck in" as you attempt to zip it shut - but you also won't have to deal with the gifts at the airport: you'll have enough to deal with as it is.

Holiday travel is enough to make anyone think that the sky's the limit when it comes to their temper. But, with a little planning and a little patience holiday travel doesn't have to be that stressful. Just relax, think ahead and remember that Santa knows when you're sleeping, he knows when you're awake, and he knows when you're flipping off the man behind the registration desk at Delta.

Learn to Play an Instrument to Save Your Life

Growing up, I always loved music, admired musicians, and still do. When I entered college, a friend in my freshman dorm played the harmonica. I was fascinated and envious. I had always wanted to play an instrument but we could never afford lessons, let alone the ability to buy an instrument. But, when this guy told me he bought it for two dollars, my heart leapt. Even I could afford that paltry sum. So I immediately ran down to the local department store and bought my own. It wasn't until I got back to my room I realized I couldn't play a note. It drove my roommate crazy and so I had to resort to playing in the bathroom or stairwell. I shouldn't use the term "playing" at this juncture. It was making noise on a very irritating level at best. But every spare minute between classes and studying, I tackled "Mary Had a Little Lamb," and other classics.

About three months later, I could play four or five nursery rhymes. Hey, it's a start. With this major accomplishment under my belt, I moved on to show tunes. My family always had Broadway show music around like Camelot and Oklahoma, so, naturally I gravitated toward what I knew. Later, I would try out the Beatles and the Stones. By my senior year, I could play by ear. If I could hear it, I could play it. Playing the harmonica was very therapeutic and satisfying. Then a few years later, when I was at the home of a friend with a piano, they suggested that perhaps my ear training could translate to the piano. I explained that I couldn't afford a piano and they told me to consider a cheap electric organ, which still used the same keyboard.

I found a used table-top organ in the newspaper for about twenty dollars and was excited. It was small with only three octaves, but it played well enough. Within a few weeks, I was able to manage my nursery rhymes, all by ear. I was now in my late twenties and continued with the organ for several years. Finally I traded it in for a larger floor model and learned to play just about anything. There was only one problem: I couldn't read music or play any chords. So I got a few pieces of sheet music for Broadway shows and gave it a try. By the time I was forty, I taught myself chords and how to read music. I bought a cheap keyboard, finally graduating from the organ. A few years later, I bought a proper keyboard with all the great features allowing me to play many instrumental sounds.

With my new toy, I decided to expand my horizons and began collecting sheet music from every genre from classic rock of the 50's to jazz and blues. Recently, I got a guitar for Christmas and am determined to learn to play my third instrument. I actually played in the church band for a few years and really enjoyed the experience. So why am I telling you this? Because it saved my life. No, I wasn't dying of a rare disease where music controlled the cancer or anything like that. Instead, it allowed me to close out the rest of the crazy, stress-filled world and play the melodies and harmonies that could soothe my muddled mind. It could transport me back in time to my college days of the Jefferson Airplane when "White Rabbit" ruled the airwaves or to "Tommy, the rock opera." I could escape the rigors of social or economic issues and relax.

I can't think of a better way to lose yourself or push away the daily grind. It is more than just therapeutic: it's regenerating and energizing. I figure that if a forty year old can teach himself to play, then anyone can. I started with the harmonica. But discovered that it was one of the harder instruments to play because you can't see the holes and, therefore, have to play by ear. You can get a cheap keyboard and tap out a tune in minutes. There are dozens of lessons on the Internet and keyboards that are self-teaching using lights and technology.

The point is, it's one of the least expensive ways to enjoy yourself and can be enriching and rewarding. You don't have to become a concert pianist to enjoy yourself. You can plug in some earphones so you don't annoy anyone around you and it uses almost no electricity. I guarantee, whatever age you are, you can learn to play and will be grateful when you have mastered even a few simple songs. It's fun, entertaining, and will give you endless hours of pleasure. If you have never considered learning to play, make it a priority this year. No, I don't work for Baldwin, but I believe in the power of music. It's an idea and a gift, from me to you. And it just might save your life from boredom.

The Truth About Self Esteem

The truth is, self esteem is a mental fabrication. It has no objective existence of its own like might a part of the body or something in the natural environment. We can all agree on a person's height, weight or even how fast he or she can walk a mile. But, there is no way to measure self esteem that is objective or standardized. That's actually a good thing because it means any person can make self esteem to be what they choose. But, therein lies the problem as well.

We might think a person who is successful in business, productive and wealthy, has "high" self esteem. Yet, that may not be the case. In fact, it may be that their success is a way of compensating for "low" self esteem. Those who strive for superiority, and may in some ways achieve it, can be attempting to overcome feelings of inferiority. Or, imagine a student who gets straight A's year after year. Does that indicate high self esteem? Or, does it indicate fear of punishment? Or, does it indicate competitiveness? On the other hand, we might envision a mother of five children, barely able to make ends meet and who yet is happy and relatively unburdened by the amount of stressors in her environment. How does one gauge her self esteem?

Self esteem cannot be gauged by the outer conditions of our situations or circumstances. It can be determined, in part, by how we interact with and respond to our situations and circumstances. Generally, we can say that a person with high self esteem is

Understanding and supportive of others willing to listen to others a generous giver eager to learn new information able to change beliefs and behaviors based on new knowledge

Low self esteem can generally be characterized as

Overbearing and demanding towards others self absorbed and small minded a stingy taker frightened of risk and challenges resistant to change and growth.

Why is this so? Because the higher one's self esteem, the less dependent one is on any given external structure which might define the self. Low self esteem is based almost entirely on external structures such as rules and regulations, codes of behavior, rewards and punishments. As such, external structures, including other people, can threaten the self, limit the self, manipulate the self and even damage the self. Individuals with low self esteem believe they can "win" by overpowering external structures as opposed to cooperating with external structures. Our western culture's dominance over the external natural world, in contrast to indigenous cultures which are symbiotically cooperative, suggests our western culture has a low opinion of itself. Even the remarkable technological advances put forth by western civilization is not in itself evidence of a high collective cultural self esteem and can be viewed as a way of compensating for a variety of social deficits including slavery, racism, bigotry, prejudice and corruption. The history of brutality and violence exhibited in western society is certainly indicative of low cultural self esteem as it is excessively overbearing, to say the least.

What we often refer to as high self esteem comes about by understanding that the self is not dependent on the external world of people, places and things for its status. Self esteem is something which exists within one's own mind and something which can be enriched and enhanced or degraded and demeaned only by one's own mind. As such, there is no reason to fear external structures such as rules and regulations, new information, strange beliefs, different cultures and certainly people with different colored skin. All such external objects have no real bearing on the self other than what the mind gives it. High self esteem comes from a mind that knows the self to be essentially fluid, malleable and flexible which is required for growth and development. The self is understood to be a process, not a static entity. By way of analogy, consider the self to be like water. It can be solid, liquid or gas. The solid state of water, as in ice, is the self when awake. The liquid is the self when dreaming and the gas when asleep. But, even ice can change its shape. It can be melted and reshaped without losing any of its quality or quantity.

Many modern teachers will suggest a variety of exercises in affirmative positive thinking to build self esteem. Although positive, constructive thinking has it's place and can be a part of building self esteem, all the positive thinking in the world will be for nothing until one believes, knows, that the self, no matter how frozen, can be reshaped without fear of losing the self. The very first step towards changing self esteem, or changing any aspect of the self, is the realization of its adaptable, pliable nature and its underlying reality as a mental fabrication. Neuroscientists refer to this capacity of mental adaptability as "plasticity." And, ultimately, since the self is a mental fabrication, it arises out of a vast array of neural interconnections in the brain, which has this capacity of plasticity. Once this solvent nature of the mind is fully accepted, then positive, constructive thinking can be effective. But, positive thinking alone is not enough. There must also be heat to melt the old frozen lower level self esteem models and a new mold in which to shape the new higher level self esteem beliefs. It is said that new wine must be put into new wine skin. Positive thoughts must be contained within a new belief system which understands the self to be a fabrication of its own making - what one might call a framework of "self-responsibility."

A Different Tale of How the West Was Won - "Cattle Country and Back Trail," by Erwin A Thompson

In his cycle of over a dozen Westerns, author Erwin Thompson paints a moral universe in which good, humor, and wit triumph and love unites and conquers all.

Thompson originally started writing Westerns after reading every one he could get his hands on. After this extensive immersion, he decided it would be just as entertaining to write his own. And, so he did. As a gas pipe fitter that couldn't work outside on rainy and snowy days, he found writing in the corner of the locker room during the company's officially declared inclement weather days just about perfect.

I first heard these stories as a child. My father's three children waited eagerly for the next installment to be read in front of the living room fireplace. We thrilled to their characters and plots. Through my father's generosity, we became plot consultants as well as his audience. This training in "What do you think should happen next? What would this character likely do?" was wonderful training for us in our own writing, reading, and just plain living. Grandchildren enjoyed this tradition when their time came. "I always wanted to be a cowboy," my father once told me. In these stories, he rides range as God meant him to.

Recently, we began to revisit this cycle of Westerns when I returned to the homeplace for extended periods to stay with my parents, now 90. We read them as bedtime stories. This time around, I am the reader and my father and mother the listeners. What remains is that all three of us--audience and reader--still thrill to the plots, characters, and turns of phrase in these graceful and compelling books that just seem to get better with age.

These two linked novelettes--Cattle Country, Back Trail --are stories the entire family will enjoy. We are pleased to hand them from our family to yours. The good news, when you get to the last page, is that there are more stories to come in this absorbing cycle that tells a different tale of how the West was won.

The Rufus Stone

The Rufus Stone is one of the New Forests most ancient monuments, as well as a reminder of the origins of the Forest itself. The stone, which is clad in iron, marks the supposed spot of King William II (or King William Rufus as he was also know) death.

During a hunting trip on the 2nd August 1100 William and his men were in pursuit of a stag when he and Sir Walter Tyrell, the Kings best archer, became separated from the group. When the King and Sir Tyrell came upon the stag Sir Tyrell shot an arrow after it, unfortunately though the arrow hit an oak tree and ricocheted off straight into the chest of the King were the arrow killed him almost instantly. Sir Walter Tyrell then understandably fled to France fearing he would be charged with murder. Allegedly, along the way Tyrell stopped at a black smith and had his horse shod with backward facing horseshoes in order to confuse those after him.

King William's body remained undiscovered until the following morning when a group of local discovered him on the forest floor with an arrow in his chest. The nobles had abandoned him fearing that the death of the King would lead to a claps of law and order so fearing for their own estates they fled. It was then left to a local peasant to take the Kings body to Winchester Cathedral for burial, or so legend has it.

There is another version of events however. The alternate telling of the story says that sir Walter Tyrell deliberately murder the King who was disliked by his own court, his people and the church and was regarded as a ruthless tyrant. Norman ambition and the general dislike of Rufus make a strong and compelling conspiracy theory, though after hundreds of year and the only two witnesses' long dead, it is perhaps a story where we will never know the truth.

Although the oak tree that played such a pivotal role in the death of a King no longer stands, a mature oak believed to be a direct descendant stands in its place.

After visiting the stone why not head to the near by Sir Walter Tyrell pub where you can muse over a drink whether it was an accident or not and whether the pubs namesake was a murderer, a liberator or just a very unfortunate man.

Selling a Home - It Is A Buyers Market, But There Are Ways To Favor The Seller

We've all heard about how "poor" the housing market is performing. Fortunately, there are ways of selling a home fast that don't require you to settle for less than your home is worth. In today's market, sellers are savvier than ever and have developed various techniques for tapping into the buyer's market. We are going to teach you a few of those tips so that hopefully, you can apply them when selling a home.

Post Videos of Your Home - One of the best ways to gain massive attention and to get your home sold quick is to post videos of it on YouTube. High quality cameras sell for about $100, which are recommended, and posting them online will take as little as a few minutes. When filming, make sure that you are walking through all of the areas of your home, not just the ones you think buyers will like the most. If you skip areas like the bathroom or garage then the buyers may think that something is wrong with them.

On the same note, walk down your neighborhood and explain to potential buyers why you believe it is a good place to live. Selling a home is as easy as having a potential buyer fall in love with a nearby coffee shop or bakery. You would be surprised by the kind of attention you receive when you post a video of your home on the Internet.

Get the Neighbors Involved - If you are going to throw an open house and allow potential buyers to visit your home, why not invite your neighbors? Turn it into a block party. If buyers can see that you live in a friendly neighborhood where everyone knows everyone, they will be much more likely to close the sale. Plus, it creates opportunities. Maybe someone will show up who may not have been interested themselves, but knows someone who is.

Go Social - Create social media listings on all of your social networking accounts. For example, if you have a Facebook or Twitter then posts a few photos and videos of your home on them. Even if you only have a few hundred friends, everyone will see them and it will provide you with that much more exposure.

Upkeep Everything - When selling a home, it is a good idea to upkeep everything and removing all clutter from both the inside and outside of your home. Showing a clean and tidy property will dramatically increase the popularity and interest in your home. Take care of little nicks and scratches and fix any loose doorknobs. Doing the small things now will add up and really increase the value of your home.

Stage the Outside of Your Home - The final tip we have when looking for someone to "buy my house" is to stage the exterior. Basically, do whatever you need to do to make the outside of your home look new, fresh, and unique. And this doesn't have to be very expensive either. Simply adding some fresh paint, potted flowers at the door, and a some landscaping can all increase your home's appeal. People can be very easy to please and staging the exterior of your home is like an invite inside. Once they see that the outside is taken care of, they only have to assume that the inside is the same way. From there, you have them hooked.

Do not rely on just one source. Remember to try combining some or even all of the above beekeeping lessons to ensure you are receiving the most accurate and current information possible.

Families Find It Harder to Get Help With Medical Bills

Every government in the world has faced difficulty in providing health services to the population, even Britain and Canada which subsidizes health care are finding it harder to allocate funds with the thinning resources, aging residents and expanding population. In 2009, for instance, the British National Health Service revealed it could not shoulder the costly drugs for renal cancer, earning public ire in the process. But when you think about it, the British are still much better than in the U.S. where Americans are not getting enough help with medical bills.

With meager resources, governments have to prioritize but sadly, health is not among the priorities in the market pie. The United States still relies on the private health institutions to provide help with medical bills for working families in the form of insurance. It's amazing when you consider that it is the only remaining superpower in the world, spending about $7,000 per capita annually according to the World Health Organization and yet its health system is maybe comparable to third world countries (most of which only allocate $35 annually per person) in terms of inefficiency. How else do you explain why millions of families file for bankruptcy because of medical expenses?

As the U.S. still grapples with the financial crunch and high unemployment rates, employers scrimp on insurance subsidy, resulting to higher premium for the employees. As a result, workers have to forego insurance and just pray to high heavens they don't get sick. But as always the case when you least expect it, things happen and they find themselves on the brink of bankruptcy if they can't find help with medical bills.

Although there are charity groups or religious organizations that offer help, and while hospitals have their own financial assistance programs, the resources are just not enough to equally share among the thousands of families in need of aid. With the proposed universal health care gathering dust on the shelves of the U.S. Congress, families who couldn't find help with medical bills turn to more extreme means to get by. The options become narrower and narrower: bankruptcy, high interest loans or be buried in debt.

Taking Your Business to the Next Level With Local Adverts

There are lots of ways to get publicity to your products and services. When you want to get publicity to your products and services, the first thing that should normally cross your mind is how you are going to do it. You can go through lots of online means or you may as well go offline as the offline means of publicity brings a lot of results.

The online system brings a lot of results because it would be a kind of targeted, you may choose to use the free system or you may later want to pay. When it occurs to you to pay, the first thing an expert would tell you is "Google AdWords" or "Facebook Ads" and a lot more others, you may also go to individual sites with good traffic and place you adverts. Google is a powerful advert medium which has helped a lot of testifying customers build their business to a great level. Facebook is also a monster traffic pulling social network that does advertisement, so does Yahoo, MSN and other big sites. You may also use free classified ads, you may start an affiliate section on your website, you can also do the bad things like spamming.

All these are blessed ways to keep your business up and running with a good pace but who thinks of local advertisement which involve the offline media like posters, hand bills, magazine adverts, newspaper ads, local classifieds, banners, bill boards, radio broadcasting, television broadcasting, mobile marketing etc. The offline system is an extremely powerful method of sending your business to a great level. Products advertised on newspapers and magazines sell like crazy. Taking myself as a witness, I paid a few hundred dollars to keep an ad on a local sports newspaper running for 2 months for a client. He made 220 sales of his power inverter. These ones are more targeted, you get your product in front of interested parties.

The first promo I made with a recording studio on a television station saw them getting 20 clients by the end of the week, this is a good way to meet up is the online ads fail to deliver. Remember, in everything you do play your cards well and all the money is yours.

You need to understand that a lot of people don't use the internet the way they watch television or read news on papers and magazines and these guys need to see your products and services. They may require it but don't know how to find you. This is a real business promotion strategy as every body now concentrate online while some people who don't know the internet well keep your money in their pockets, react now and make success.

View from the Stage: Made Her Cry

Made Her Cry

I played at a Katrina Benefit this weekend. It was a huge weekend. More stuff happened in two days that normally happens in a month. I had a special guest on stage with me, Frank Oxley, renown New Orleans Jazz drummer who is temporarily moored to a shelter bunk in Elgin until he is given the OK to return back home. I had been communicating all week with Frank--wonderful man; outstanding drummer, classy, humble. (Frank doesn't beat on the skins like the kids do nowadays, but plays with the compassion of a tail-gunner.)

We ended out our set with "Shiver Me Timbers" by Tom Waits. I asked him to do a breaking wave kind of thing with the mallets on the cymbals. The effect was beautifully powerful. I swear that I never heard anything like that in my life.

A few minutes later I was in the crowd. I spoke to a woman ("Gramma") who like Frank was up in Elgin until they gave her the all clear to return to New Orleans. You made her cry--she told me, speaking about another woman she was with. "What was that last song?" the other woman asked. "It made me cry". This song connected the dots on all the emotions that she was feeling, leaving her home and family. Franks symphonic waves were a stirring reminder of the water that had claimed her home. The emotions all came together at that moment in a heartfelt response to the music. I thank God for the opportunity and ability to make that moment happen.

I don't take this lightly, in fact it is the most powerfully humbling thing that I've experienced performing so far. It tells me that I truly am on a path of heart.

Well, you know me, I've got to end this road report on a cheerful note, so I've got to tell you about another New Orleans Drummer that joined me on the big stage that day. Nine year old Joshua Tailor. Frank met Joshua in Elgin and asked if he could do a song with me. I asked Joshua how long he had been playing. "Since I was two!" he beamed at me. And you could tell that he had been playing drums since before he could ride a bike--he was really good. I brought Rosie up to play harp, and Andrew on tambourine; I almost felt weird being so old up there. The child'uns were rocking the house uh-huh. Some down home baby! I looked out and everyone was beaming.

That's why we play. To stir up feelings in our listeners, whether it's to get up and move their feet, scream and shout, or feel something deep down in their very being. That's what it's all about.

10 Things You Should Know About Hiring Movers

Need help moving? How do you start?

1. Get a piece of paper and count all the large items in your home by name. Example: 42 in' plasma TV - 2, Queen sized beds - 2 mattresses and 2 box springs. Yes this takes time, but it's worth it to cut down on time which also cuts down on the price.

2. Take a box of the size you think you will use to pack. Put as many small items in the box as will safely fit. Take the same box room to room and think about how many items will fit in the box. Write down how many boxes will be needed for each room. For example: Master bedroom - 6 boxes. You will use this information when talking to a mover.

3. Go to the garage and perform steps one and two.

4. Go outside to the front, back and side yards and make the same estimates.

5. Look online and in the front phone book for movers. Check sources like Craigslist where many budget movers will list themselves. Ask friends to recommend a mover to you. Start with a list of 10 movers. Check your state moving licensing departments to see which of the movers on your list are licensed. Search for keywords such as "complaints" and "problems" with the name of the movers. The advanced search will give you some idea of past complaints. Expect some problems because few moved are perfect. Movers may be using independent contractors who may not be used for your move. The research is simply to inform you. High cost movers may have the best service because they have the money to fully finance the move. Can you afford high cost movers? Can you are NOT to have a high cost mover? Only you can make that decision. If you budget is limited, your best defense is to be educated. Next to each mover write what you think is important. Write down the budget for your move. Will you pack yourself? When do you plan to move? Now you know what needs to be moved, how much of each item, a list of movers that you have researched, and how much you can spend on each move. How will you finance the move? Cash? Check? Credit Card? What type of credit card?

6. Call the list of movers. If you are not satisfied with your list, call another set of 5 movers. Repeat if necessary. Narrow you're your selection.

7. Use colored paper or post-it type notes to label each large item and box. Do not depend on writing on boxes because other writing may confuse the movers. Make each room of the home have its own color code. For example, the master bedroom may be all blue. Use tape to securely fix the post-it type note in places where the items will not be damaged by the tape. Some movers who pack for you will use the same color coding system. Keep fragile items together and mark their boxes clearly and in very large letters.

8. Decide what the most important item that you want to move. If your concern is a huge TV or a grandma's heirloom chair, make sure you remind the team of your focus. The team may be focused on moving the grand piano in the living room, but if you are concerned about grandma's chair, your stress level will rise until your moving need is met. Sometimes couples differ in what is important. Talk to each other and make sure your crew leader knows that each of you have a specific worry. Remember children have worries during a move and keep their important items also at the top of you focus list.

9. Remember that offering water, Gatorade-type, and tea refreshments are acceptable. Offering alcohol to crews is not acceptable hospitality. Save that offering to friends, family and other personal acquaintances. Mind altering substances may cause problems during your move. I have been offered before, but I declined, reluctantly....

10. If you like the service you received from a mover, leave them an online comment. Anyone can complain, but encouragement takes a few words like "Great job", "Thanks." In your comment, say exactly what you liked about the move. "You guys showed great care when moving my items." "I really you all's speed and professionalism during my move.", "Great job, Great price." These are ways to leave positive comments. The work is hard but rewarding. Many movers actually enjoy helping others and helping solve moving challenges. Let your movers know they performed well.
